Installing the Management SSL-VPN Client

Installation

The SSL-VPN client downloads are available via the Client Portal (Support -> Downloads)

Windows
Note: You will need Administrator privileges on your system to install the SSL-VPN client.
  1. Download the appropriate Windows installer file for your system.
  2. Right-click the Installer file, then click "Run as Administrator".
  3. The Installation dialog box will appear after a few moments.
  4. Click "Install" on the Installation dialog box. 
  5. When "Done!" is displayed in the Installation dialog box, click "Close".
  6. Proceed to the Configuration section of this article.

Mac OS X
Note: You will need Administrator privileges on your system to install the SSL-VPN client.

  1. Download the OS X installer file. Double-click the dmg file to mount and open it.
  2. Double-click the 'forticlientsslvpn.pkg' file contained within.
  3. The Installation dialog box will appear, click "Continue".
  4. You will then be prompted to read and agree to the Client license agreement. When ready, click "Continue".
  5. Select the location to install the SSL VPN client (usually "Macintosh HD"), and click "Install."
  6. You may be prompted for a name and password to authorize the client installation. Enter the credentials of an account with administrator privileges and click "Install Software".
  7. The client installation then begins. When complete, click "Finish".
  8. Proceed to the Configuration section of this article.
Linux
  • There are many distributions of Linux, and your exact procedure may vary, thus these directions are deliberately generic.
  • The FortiClient SSLVPN binary is 32-bit. You may need to install the corresponding 32-bit libraries available with your distribution's package manager. If the FortiClient program does not start, this is usually the problem.
  1. Download the Linux tar archive file (link above).
  2. Unpack the tar file by double-clicking it, or using 'tar -xvf'.
  3. Double click the "forticlientsslvpn" and proceed to the Configuration section of this article.

Configuration

All Versions

  1. Start the FortClient SSLVPN program
    Windows: Start-> Programs -> Forticlient -> Forticlient SSLVPN
    Mac OS X: Macintosh HD -> Applications -> forticlientsslvpn
    LinuxWherever the tar achive was extracted.
  2. When the program launches, you will be presented with a settings dialog box. Configure the fields as follows. Any remaining fields are unused, and may be left blank.
